Specialized Session of the International Center for Integrated Management of Watershed and Bio-Resources in Arid and Semi-Arid Regions

Dr. Mohammad Hassan Nassajian, the speaker of the seventh specialized session on integrated watershed management and biological resources, presented the web-based system for the integrated management of natural resources and watershed management

 

This system was developed through a contractor in the private sector to manage watershed projects, and technical support for it has been provided by the General Directorate of Natural Resources and Watershed Management in Isfahan Province. The implementation of this system within the Directorate is currently active.

The system is accessible to users with the following objectives:

  • Compiling complete statistics and information on study and implementation projects including mechanical, biological, biomechanical, and managerial aspects from previous years
  • Linking all spatial and descriptive information to each other based on the perspective of integrated management
  • Assessing the effectiveness of projects and drafting plans for study and execution
  • The system allows for analytical viewing and reporting of data across four separate sections: action-oriented, watershed-oriented, future planning, and effectiveness.

Key features of the system include simple, fast, and easy access to all necessary statistics and analyses, quick access to the electronic archive of all data, web-based functionality, compatibility with mobile screens, the ability to upload various file types, the capability for dynamic reporting, and analytical and managerial reporting.

Dynamic reporting is also provided in the system. In this type of reporting, the selection of the number and type of conditions based on the rows and columns of databases is left to the user, who can expand their reporting scope.

The initial idea for this project was proposed in 1397 (2018) at the General Directorate's Suggestions Committee for Natural Resources and Watershed Management in Isfahan Province, where it was accepted. It was subsequently approved by the smart management committee of the Directorate and implemented. The initial design and implementation of the system took approximately three continuous years, with improved versions designed and executed from 2021to2024.

In the system development plan, an upgrade to a version compatible with Web GIS is anticipated. Additionally, in the initial design, provisions were made to add data from the mineral database, rangeland assessment software information, legal violation reporting systems, and land bank information, all of which can be considered in the development plan.

At the end of the session, the Director of the International Center for Integrated Management of Watershed and Bio-Resources in Arid and Semi-Arid Regions proposed to explore integrated usage within the Natural Resources and Watershed Management Organization and to add features aimed at Integrated Watershed Management, which will be deferred to future in-person and online meetings for more review.
