Holding the second specialized with the title of Applied Analysis of Integrated Management of Watershed

Holding the second specialized meeting of the International Center for Integrated Management of Watershed and Bio-Resources in Arid and Semi-Arid Regions (ICIMWB) with the title of Applied Analysis of Integrated Management of Watershed

 

The second specialized session of the Integrated Watershed Management and Biological Resources Center entitled "Applied Analysis of Comprehensive Integrated Watershed Management" was held in a webinar and in person by Dr. Shahbazi, the Deputy of Watershed Management at the Alborz Provincial Office of Natural Resources and Watershed Management, on Saturday, August 17, 2024, from 10 AM to 12 PM in Motiei's Memorial Hall.

At the beginning of this session, Dr. Hamid Nouri, the head of the International Center for Comprehensive Watershed Management and Biodiversity, highlighted the importance of holding specialized sessions in the field of Integrated Watershed Management and explained the process of organizing a series of specialized scientific sessions. Nouri stated that in line with the approved plans for this year, the center will hold these sessions regularly every other Saturday. He emphasized the significance and necessity of a systemic approach in natural resource management, detailing the objectives, policies, and programs of the center in organizing specialized sessions, and the expected achievements, appreciating the organizers and participants of the first specialized session. Nouri described this initiative as a suitable opportunity for enhancing learning and awareness within the organization. He stressed the importance of ecological-human approaches and the consideration of economic and social aspects in sustainable land management, highlighting the urgency of outlining comprehensive patterns based on effective stakeholder engagement.

Dr. Taavili, Dr. Mohseni Saravi from the Faculty of Natural Resources at the University of Tehran, and Dr. Salehpourjam from the Soil Conservation and Watershed Management Research Institute were panel members at this session. Dr. Ali Shahbazi served as the keynote speaker, providing a comprehensive account of Integrated Watershed Management, reviewing the history of comprehensive management in Iran, discussing actions taken and questionnaire preparation for exploring comprehensive watershed management in the Lozor, Arjomand, and Pardakht sub-watersheds, as well as the utilization of various software tools in the process.

At the end of the session, time was allocated for questions and answers to be raised both by physical and virtual attendees, allowing for effective discussions on the topics covered by panel members and participants.

Key points discussed included the need for internal and external organizational coordination, public participation in comprehensive watershed management processes, the necessity of passing supra-organizational laws to enforce considerations for watershed management, alignment of top-down documents such as soil protection laws, food security documents, etc., identifying, evaluating, and documenting indigenous knowledge and incorporating it with modern technologies, exploring and benefiting from global experiences and lessons learned regarding laws, structures, and approaches to integrated watershed management. The session involved questions and suggestions regarding these topics, with active participation from Dr. Hosseini and Dr. Kamali.
